GCU Lahore Students Help Pakistan Win Silver at U-18 Asia Cup Hockey 2025
Lahore: Two students from Government College University (GCU) Lahore have brought honor to Pakistan by playing a pivotal role in securing a silver medal at the Under-18 Asia Cup Hockey Tournament 2025 in China.
Ali Taj, a student of Business Accounting and Finance, and Ghulam Mustafa, an Intermediate First Year student, were part of the national U-18 hockey squad. Their exceptional performance, particularly in the semi-final victory over Malaysia, proved crucial in Pakistan’s journey to the final. With consistent efforts throughout the event, the team finished runners-up and claimed the silver medal.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Omar Chudhary congratulated the players, calling their success a matter of pride for the university. He highlighted that their achievement reflects a blend of talent, determination, and institutional support that strengthens GCU’s standing in both academics and sports.
Director Sports Muhammad Waseem Akhtar praised the athletes’ dedication and expressed confidence in their future contributions at higher competitive levels.
Reflecting on the achievement, Ghulam Mustafa credited the encouragement from university leadership for boosting his confidence, while Ali Taj acknowledged GCU’s facilities and support as key factors behind his international success.
