Future belongs to day-night Test and pink ball. Test
cricket is the longest form of the sport of cricket and is considered its
highest standard. Test matches are played between national representative teams
with "Test status", as determined by the International Cricket
Council (ICC). The two teams of 11 players play a four-innings match, which may
last up to five days (or longer in some historical cases). It is generally
considered the most complete examination of teams' playing ability and
endurance. The name Test stems from the long, gruelling match being a
"test" of the relative strengths of the two sides. The first
officially recognised Test match began on 15 March 1877, between England and
Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
Australia and New Zealand played the first day-night
match in Test cricket's 138-year history in 2015. And now it had been played between Pakistan and
windes, it was first day night test in Asia. The historic game marked
Pakistan’s 400th Test match.Green shirts won the match and created history. The
pink-ball Test made its debut last year when Australia faced New Zealand at the
Adelaide Oval and the experiment was deemed as a resounding success.
Pakistan skipper Misbah believed that day-night format represents the future of
Test cricket. He said it’s a good opportunity and you will see it mostly
happening in future. South Africa will face the Aussies in the other day-night
Test in November.
Holder, Misbah’s West Indian counterpart, also supported
the idea of day-night Tests. He said
I like the concept and I think it is one that should be
there to stay. For the future of international cricket we have to give a chance
to something new. However, Holder believes sighting the pink ball was not
easy and still it is a challenge.
In the past David
Boon, former Aussie batsman said that Day-Night
Test Cricket with the pink ball can be the future of the game. However in the
eye of experts ,Pink ball is designed and manufactured by Kookaburra to replace
traditional red ball in test cricket. It is better than the red ball in terms
of the visibility and tougher than white ball in terms of endurance.
